BERLIN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
It is a research university located in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 1879 and, with nearly 30,000 students, is one of the largest technical universities in Germany. It also has the highest proportion of foreign students out of universities in Germany. Amongst the top Universities in Germany, TU Berlin is a member of the Top Industrial Managers for Europe network, which allows for student exchanges between leading European engineering schools. The new common main library of the Technical University of Berlin and of the Berlin University of the Arts was opened in 2004 and holds about 2.9 million volumes.

1. Faculty of electrical engineering and computer science: Ranked 48th in the world by Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings

The faculty offers three courses at the Bachelors level, viz. electrical engineering, computer science and technical computer science; and two courses at the Masters level, viz. Computational Neuroscience and Automotive Systems. The disciplines of the faculty are characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity. The faculty in teaching and research covers the entire spectrum and focuses in information and communication technology. The future research of the faculty are in the areas of micro/nano-system, automation, electrical power engineering, software engineering and machine intelligence. All courses benefit from a unique network of research institutes, in which the faculty is involved: five Fraunhofer Institutes, Ferdinand-Braun-Institute, German Telekom Laboratories, Daimler Automotive Systems – a unique research environment of information technology.

For foreign students, the Center for International and Intercultural Communication is there, which serves as a platform for international and intercultural issues in the information technology (IT).

2. Masters program in Global Production Engineering for Solar technology

GPE-Solar is a two-year master program in English, offered by the TU Berlin. The degree program belongs to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems, which draw together engineering disciplines such as mechanical engineering, transport technology and social sciences and offers comprehensive qualification in the solar technologies photovoltaic and solar thermal systems. The course of studies is oriented around the requirements in commercial practice and takes all steps of the value-creating process into account; from production technology for solar components and planning, installation and operation of solar facilities to management, financing, law and marketing. The degree program is directed at engineers with a Bachelors degree whose goals are leadership roles and international careers in production, management or engineering within the field of solar technology.

Cooperation partner of GPE Solar is RENAC (Renewables Academy AG); which is an internationally active provider of education and training in the fields of photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind energy, biogas and energy efficiency. RENAC's knowledge base covers technology, financing, management and environmental considerations. For practical seminars RENAC has a well equipped Training Center.
